Yoga is an ancient system of relaxation and rejuvenation that originated in India over 3,000 years ago. Yoga continues to be just as powerful today, as it helps people deal with their daily stresses and challenges in a more peaceful and positive manner. Yoga affects a person’s life at all levels of body, mind and spirit, bringing health, calmness and awareness.
The Boise Yoga Center was started by Certified Iyengar Yoga Teachers Vickie & Jerry Aldridge in 1989. Classes are offered for all levels of students by highly trained teachers to enhance the student’s understanding and create the opportunity for increased health and vitality.
Iyengar Yoga is a method of instruction set forth by living yoga master B.K.S. Iyengar. Mr. Iyengar, whose many texts include the classic “Light on Yoga,” resides in India today and at the age of 95 continues to practice extensively. B.K.S. Iyengar has revitalized the ancient art of yoga and made it accessible to our modern man in a dynamic, safe, and effective way. He has also explored ways to use yoga to help people with injuries and illnesses, adapting the classical poses with the use of yoga props to enhance freedom of circulation, breath and healing.
Iyengar Yoga is known for it’s instructional quality presented through a vigorous, yet safe, approach. This method incorporates asanas (poses) and pranayama (rhythmic breath control) introduced with clear instruction geared toward people of all ages, health conditions and levels of practice. Teachers rigorously train to become “certified”, a process carefully overseen by the Iyengar Yoga National Association of the United States (IYNAUS).
